Heads up my dudes, my son needs to do work experience this summer and he's a programmer. Nearly 15, can do 3 decent languages, main in Java, been programming since 4. All he wants to do is be a developer. Anyone offer work experience these days? Two weeks in July. London or Dartford way or anywhere in between. Ta! Retoots appreciated!
@Thayer same boat as Oliver here, always looking for help over at my FOSS project, QZ Tray. We're on GitHub and we pay, but is mostly a self-leaen, self-discipline gig.

@Thayer Can you share more about his passions and problems he is interested solving / what he wants to build? What does he do for fun?
To to use analogy, if I said, "I can speak English, Spanish, Chinese snd want a job speaking over the summer" it may not give prospective employers enough idea of how I can serve them.
@jrovu well as it's only 2 weeks he will more likely be making coffee and watching people :) he be very happy with anything. Are you in the UK, and if so you remember your school imposed work experience at 14? :) is going to be the same.

@Thayer most internships are full by now. I know our tech has standby candidates with all 55 seats filled. They generally open in august and are usually filled by mid-november. I recommend going to university career fairs and the like, as those will usually be easier to navigate than online only offerings. @ghostrunner that's so helpful thanks! He's only 14 it's a UK thing where kids work in industry for 2 weeks but this will be really helpful in a few years, thank you.

@TazPoltorak anything really! So long as it's 2 weeks and he's in an office. If he can't get programming based W.E. it'll be whatever he can find.

@Thayer I'll try to speak to our hr person in charge of interns tomorrow. Idk what they will say but I can discuss it. This would be a fintech firm in the City.

@TazPoltorak thanks that's really kind! It's just a 2 week non paid work experience. They can literally just make coffee, file papers, watch people etc. It's to give school kids an idea of the work place. They try and get them in the industry they want to work in too see how work works. Thank you :)

Making tourtière for #PiDay. The eggs aren't traditional, but my son and I read about it in "Danny, Champion of the World" and we've done it in our meat pies ever since. Really good!

During my angsty teenage years, LiveJournal was where it was at. I remember writing in it daily, and even though I came from a small town, I had an audience who interacted with my journal. It felt real and vulnerable.
Why did we stop using it? Facebook came out, and all of a sudden, the world lived through status messages. AIM → LiveJournal → Myspace → Facebook → YouTube → TikTok. We went from instant connection and long-form thought to building spaces that felt like our own, only to abandon them in favor of performing for the world. Somewhere along the way, we traded vulnerability for likes.
I miss the community.
That said, I've been blown away by the people I've been meeting here on Inkwell. It's been a pleasure getting to know everyone, and I hope to continue meeting many more. I also hope others find one another through here and make meaningful connections. The one thing I've noticed so far is that I'm meeting people all over the world. Right now, that feels important.
Who else used LiveJournal? And who joined for the appeal of long-form writing?

Ho l'impressione che sia soprattutto dovuto al fatto che con così pochi test nessuno sa ancora come fare con questo formato (sia i piloti che i progettisti che i box)
Certo che una batteria che passa da 100 a 0 in meno di venti secondi non sembra un' idea favolosa (anche peggio il fatto di non poterla usare a bassa velocità)
