XIII is a game for which I have fond memories.
Two decades ago, I bought the physical copy for GameCube, thought, “This is pretty cool…”
Then put it back in the case never to play it again.
Fast forward to six years ago. I saw XIII on sale on Steam, and I thought, “Wow! I remember that game! Why haven’t I tried it again?”
Since it was $2, and I prefer keyboard and mouse controls, it was a no-brainer purchase.
Instantly, I loaded it up and had the time of my life, as I went through one of the most unique comic book-themed, cell-shaded FPS titles ever made.
And I can’t emphasize enough how much of a treat it was because to this day, there’s nothing like XIII.
Now have I ever returned to play the GameCube port? Yes, and then I remembered the reason I put it back in its case all those years ago—despite having fun—is because the GameCube controller is just so awkward for these kinds of games.
However, I don’t think I would have bought the PC version if I didn’t try the GameCube port first. And so it’s hard to get rid of this because it has such powerful memories attached to it. Even though I mostly played it on a different platform, this was my first taste of XIII. -
