@talksina I think I get the rough idea, and it does seem like it would be a nice thing to add (I would have added it myself), but I'm starting to question if there are any actual benefits. Or if it hurts more than helps, on balance.
By the way, since another response has brought it up, how well / badly do progress indicators work, in your own experience?

@talksina thanks for the explanation. I think another issue that happens for me is, "oh this is just a short read, I should finish it" even if it's already obvious that I'm not going to get any value out of it

@talksina I know exactly what you're talking about, the original slop.
And to your previous post, I think spoons might be a more useful measure, if it wasn't just as elusive.

@dneary I don't draw such a line! It's a very fluid range with many gradations. Rijsttafel is a great example; it uses Indonesian ingredients and techniques and presentation style, but it's not actually an Indonesian product. Instead, its origin is in Dutch colonial cooking and later was refined in the metropole. The fact that Indonesian migrants run rijsttafel restaurants in the Netherlands is also a complication.

@evan Hard to top the experience of eating at Schwartz's, the experience is far beyond the taste of the smoked meat, its the chutzpah of the servers. Don't think I could replicate either.

I periodically find it interesting how we still haven't really solved consistency in audio leveling. I have to turn YouTube up to around 1:00 on my amp dial to get the same volume as 11:00 on Apple Music.

@evan I'm really not sure how I feel about this - where do you draw a line between colonial extraction, cultural appropriation, and a post-colonial diaspora? Is an Indonesian rijstafel a colonial extraction, or is it part of an Indonesian post-colonial diaspora?
