        @gkrnours Guix has long used Shepherd, not Systemd. however, this puts paves the way for some powerful new features for Shepherd. I'm super excited about it :)

          @cwebber Impressive... but the actual news article about shepherd tries to be simple, but WILL NOT MAKE SENSE to anyone not familiar with the tech.

          What the tech does matters, as does the ability to explain it to the general public. Find a grandmother with no knowledge of the tech, and explain it to her until she understands this AND can explain it back to you, or ask relevant questions regarding it. And rewrite using that process as a guide, until you can explain it to anyone.

            @KraftTea There are times we speak to a more general audience, and there are times we are speaking to people closer to the know. In this case, we are trying to let the people who are close to the purpose of adopting it understand. In other cases, we go more high level. While an init system is important, the people who are likely to care already know what "init system" means.

            By the way, I don't like the trope of "explain to a mom/grandma". It's never "a dad/grandpa". :\

              @cwebber @KraftTea for several years, I’ve used “explain it to a manager” with good results 😇

                @slothrop @KraftTea That's actually a great phrasing. Even if the manager is skilled in the domain, a good manager needs to delegate and is focused on tasks that allow their direct reports to focus on their tasks at hand. So by definition, even under the healthiest of delegation structures, they need to have the situation explained to them by the person who's been delegated work.

                  @cwebber @KraftTea Right??!

                  If the manager is deep enough in the workflow to do the thing themselves, then that’s often (not always, of course) a failure to delegate.

                    @slothrop Yes, with the modification that I think it's often good when a manager is *capable* of doing something themselves, but it's not a requirement that they be. But if a manager knows all the details of *what's happening now*, they've probably not been delegating properly.

                      django@social.coop yes, that could be one use case, but what I want to stress is that a topic belonging to a category should stay in that category.

                      For example, if a topic "PieFed is great" is started on fediverse@piefed.social, it wouldn't be right (nor would I really be able to) move that topic to fediverse@lemmy.world — I don't own either of them!

                      So to de-duplicate topics or move them around based on my personal liking is possible, but goes against the reality that a specific topic is a member of a specific community.

                      It's more a restriction out of principle than anything.

                      Now, if one were to put together a proper cross-posting FEP and it were adopted by the threadiverse implementors, then we'd really be cookin'.
