@timmy @VeroniqueB99 that's because I'm the EU (most of the European countries) universities are public and the cost in most countries is zero or calculated on the family's income.

@margarit @timmy @VeroniqueB99 saying that it is a big problem in the UK. So, after Brexit, we are kinda student debt free. In Poland, you had these loans during my time. But these were given to students to help them with living without the need to work while studying (to pay for living, not for fees). Not sure if these still exist.

For Germany, the "student debt" is not 100% correct. If you are eligible and get support from state, half of the sum is a credit that has to be paid back - but actually at most €10010 minus deduction (up to 21%) if you do it in one payment.OK, almost "nothing" compared to typical US student debt.🙈

@timmy Education is free. So 0. Public education 0-12 to uni is free, even private tuition s ridiculous compared to the US. It's maybe 10% of the US tuition.

And various banks offer student loans. They're a lot smaller than in the US because tuition is cheap (for public schools and unis). However, you still need to pay rent through student jobs, grants, family or loans.

@Rickd6 the energy industry runs Texas state government. So, naturally, the grid is old, poorly maintained, and not weatherized against extreme weather, so it is very sensitive to storms. It is also isolated from the nationwide grid.
A little rain often takes out power in localized areas. My neighborhood has short outages all the time. But a big storm really does a number on the whole system. They didn't build for climate change because that would cut into profits.
