  • @operand However, they experience those problems in a *completely different way*, which not only is their userbase unprepared for, but the pre-existing experience of fediverse users does not exactly prepare for!

  • @mcc I guess you could simultaneously see this as a success and a failure for ATproto: decentralization is possible... but you immediately get a lot of the same problems ActivityPub has that ATProto ostensibly solved.

  • This is why—although, now Blacksky is letting me "see through" Bluesky's worst moderation decisions, I'm glad, because Bluesky's moderation is weird and arbitrary—I think it's a downside of the network, and Mastodon made the right decision not offering this feature. Fediverse defederation forces a degree of soft group consensus on moderation: it's possible to say "if you're talking to X, I don't want to talk to *you*". On Bluesky we are all ghosts walking through walls and this can't be enforced

  • Oh, and let's consider, for a moment, the downsides of an individual user being able to "opt out" of moderation decisions. The problem with misbehavior on social media is force multipliers. One person harassing you is no problem; one person and their 3000 friends is a big problem. Imagine Bluesky and Blacksky ban user X but Trumpsky lets X keep posting. Now their 3000 friends— still in Bluesky's good graces— can see their posts calling to harass you, AND can zero-friction zip over to yell at you

Except it's completely gated behind Discord corporate servers, unsearchable outside of Discord, and all ownership lies with... you guessed it, Discord. But oooh aah Nitro....

@untilted I can see how someone running an account that is especially attractive to trolls, especially an account that gets a lot of visibility and follow requests, might find this necessary. Keep in mind following an account isn’t just about reading the posts, but also can include followers only posts and DMs open to followers only.

The big feature in release v3.2.2 of Ktistec is pinned posts with support for the Mastodon Featured Posts collection. Federation works both ways—pin a post on Ktistec and it will show up as a pinned post on Mastodon and vice versa. When you refresh an actor profile, Ktistec also fetches and updates the actor's pinned posts. This is another small step in the direction of supporting all features that Mastodon-compatible client applications expect to access via the API. It's also useful in its own right. The other major feature, which I posted a short video demonstrating here, is X-Ray Mode. X-Ray Mode is a developer and power-user tool for inspecting ActivityPub JSON-LD representations of actors, objects, and other content. Pressing Ctrl+Shift+X on any page displays the data behind the page—like an x-ray. You can:Cached Version: View the local JSON-LD representation stored in the Ktistec databaseRemote Version: Fetch and view the original JSON-LD representation from the source serverNavigation: Click on any ActivityPub IRI to navigate to that objectHistory: Use Alt+Left and Alt+Right to navigate through your viewing historyThis feature is useful for debugging federation issues, understanding ActivityPub structures, and verifying how content is stored and represented. Here's the full changelog for the release:AddedSupport for pinned posts and the Mastodon "featured posts" collection.X-Ray Mode for viewing and navigating JSON-LD resource (actor, object, etc.) representations.Back links on thread pages for easier navigation. (fixes #1)License page for LibreJS compliance. (fixes #127)Highlighting of recently fetched hashtagged posts.ChangedImproved presentation of audio and video media.Refactored theming/styling implementation. The next release will focus on smaller features and bug fixes.Enjoy!#ktistec #crystallang #activitypub #fediverse

@mynameistillian the first time or two I get my hands on them each season I just wash them, put them in the oven at 180°C and cook them until they are soft when poked with a fork, and then eat them as is, enjoying the taste I had missed for the rest of the year.this last time I had a bit of a leftover, and I've cut one of the baked sweet potatoes in cubes, dropped them in hot dashi (kombu-only) stock with a bit of wakame, heated the think for a couple of minutes more and then added miso, and I think it was even better than my usual quick miso soup with regular potatoes and wakame (they were the white variety of sweet potatoes, not the orange one)
