on pretty much every social media platform im on, if a post gets no engagement within a day i shame delete it. i continue to be mystified by people who DM me "hey what happened to that post, it was rly funny" u realize u DMing me about my deleted post is more effort than just engaging with it in the moment, right? toss my overinflated ego a bone here

this is particularly acutely felt on the video platforms where i will post some polished thoroughly practiced bel canto performance, it gets absolutely nothing, i obliterate it after 24 painful hours in deep embarrassment, and then someone DMs me asking where it is and if they could download it. NO. YOU CANNOT. IT'S TOO LATE. I have already purged the very aria from my memory it shall never be performed again

to be clear im not saying im holding my posts hostage and demanding tribute (and a single sign of engagement is enough for me to keep a post so if u see a post of mine that already has a like u will be able to find that post later), im just baffled at the idea that someone would enjoy something enough to seek it out later and DM the creator about it yet not actually be willing to do the lower effort "click the 'i saw this and didn't hate it' button"

also I should be clear I'm not subtooting anyone, what prompted this thread was the unwashed masses of tiktok, naturally
