While talking to a colleague about how I recently learned most people have never sat on a cow it came up that she has never sat on a horse. Like, not even once during childhood.
Another colleague admitted they also have never sat on a horse.
My hypothesis is that most people have at one point in their life sat on a horse.

note: the question is not "have your rich parents paid 50.000 of your local currency on gloriously expensive horse lessons and then you went on a skiing holiday". The question is: "have you sat on a horse".
Mini-horse = horse
Pony = horse
Cow = not horse, wrong thread.
And yes, as many people point out: that school-trip to an inner-city petting school where all six yr olds sat on Alfiiiii!! the sturdy mini-horse = yes, I've sat on a horse.

@Pepijn oh if pony is horse, then yes. But I answered no because I didnβt think ponies are horses (but also according to wiki, they are!)

@Pepijn rode horses and mules while running pack trains in montana. i avoid cows as a general rule. i have stood upon a moving and angry pig.

@robynredbreast @diazona we still have Arabbers selling fresh produce out of horse-drawn carts here in #Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Weβre not that far away from the time when horses were a major mode of transportation.

Like, I know horses are still around, and I could totally believe something like a third of people having ever sat on a horse. It's just surprising that it's such a large majority.

@Pepijn I have no memory of having sat on a horse, but there is a photo. When I was very young, my grandfather moved to the far suburbs and bought a house with a barn and a couple of horses. Maybe one or more of my aunts was a Horse Girl; I don't know. So there's a photo of me as a toddler sitting on one of those horses, being held by my teenage aunt. But I don't think I've been on a horse since then.
