Most Americans' memory and attention spans are too short to recognize this, but I remember. I fucking had to live through it.

Every Republican president
@stevenrosenthal meanwhile a voting majority in USA, Republicans are the best for economy and world peace... So won't change in foreseeable future.
-
@stevenrosenthal I truly can't understand how people never learn. Even the right usually ends up better off under Democratic presidents.
@nazokiyoubinbou @stevenrosenthal generally the democrats are better at *being* right wing in a sense, republicans seem to just be better at being dicks and there is no leftist party whatsoever

@yugthebug @stevenrosenthal It seems like Republicans just bring chaos and destruction every single time.
You're right about the Democrats though. I agree that the Democrats are, as a whole, not at all left. There are a handful who actually are in the party and they get overruled on just about everything anyway. They're basically just a right-wing party calling themselves left.
Just, in comparison, the Republicans were far-right in favor of self-destruction and now are open nazis...

@yugthebug @stevenrosenthal We are *long* overdue for splitting up the Democratic party (and straight up eliminating the Republican party.)
Ok, really we need ranked voting and other stuff that would enable our democracy to be democratic instead of not, but, if we must have two parties, we at least deserve one to actually be on the left...

@nazokiyoubinbou @stevenrosenthal yeah for sure

Every Republican president
You’re letting Reagan off the hook here. Reagan laid the groundwork for the destruction of the middle class and had a long list of Middle East military actions plus the Cold War set the stage for bloated defense spending and a US military industrial complex that still drives politics today. Since Reagan, war has been good business for a wide swath of the country, with strong lobbyists, while the rest of us and the world suffer under the fallout.

A big part of Poppy Bush's recession was from the S&L crisis that was suppressed during the '88 election. Reagan bears a lot of responsibility for it.

It has become a kind of evil tradition.

@stevenrosenthal I think George HW Bush (Bush I) had firm footing and an effective execution of the first Gulf War. Definitely a declining trend from top to bottom in the graphic.

I hear people talk about Right, Left, Capitalism, dictatorship, Socialism, Communism on & on. Non of those is real, they are abstract theories that in & of themselves don't work.
Don't start at the Top. You've been given a democracy & that means nothing more than having a nation that is controlled, built & cherished from the Bottom Up. Think, Act & Work to keep it alive. Vote & work to make it better, there are so many parts that need fixing.

@A_Minion @yugthebug @stevenrosenthal I mean, we're literally trying to do that.
Part of the problem is it's actually a democratic *republic*. We don't vote on policies, we vote on people and we don't get a lot of choices.
But then too, we're experiencing massive campaigns from every type of media to trick people into not voting, voting for those who can't win (especially because, as I said, no ranked voting,) etc etc rather than voting for the only other candidate besides the nazi.

@A_Minion @yugthebug @stevenrosenthal It's worth noting also that, if you go by media and etc, quite a lot of people here in America still honestly think things are basically normal. That this will all go away in three more years and it's no big deal. They don't hear about the attacks on civilian boats, they don't hear about people being kidnapped, tortured, and put into concentration camps. They just hear spin and propaganda. A lot of people honestly have no idea it's this bad.
