Putting this out as I need #Fediverse help. Please boost far and wide. In the 1980s there used to be this paper catalogue sent out. (yep, this is how we used to buy things if local stores didn't have them!)I want to say quarterly but I'm not sure. It let you order things such as band T-shirts, buttons (badges), patches, posters, and other memorabilia. I *think* it was sent out from California. Does anyone know the name of it? I have been racking my brains trying to remember it. I have fond memories of my sister (who's 10 years older than me) and I poring through it to see what we could get.

You're absolutely correct! (Great, now I sound like ChatGPT) That said I think that's where implementations like NodeBB and Mbin can apply a bit of pressure and act as intermediaries... we want federation to work well too, and we have to straddle both federation styles! That gives a somewhat unique perspective on problems and solutions.

Emphasizing moderation differences and such are things best left to discover after the user successfully lands onto the fediverse. At the start they shouldn't even have to think about what instance they want to land on. We're approaching it with the mindset that they "want to join Lemmy/Piefed" — that's not right! They should want to join a specific community, and the server just happens to be whatever they find first. Let's say I like Star Trek. I shouldn't have to be redirected to startrek.website. I should be able to see the community, think "cool I want to participate", and sign up, even if where I landed happens to be feddit, db0, or a random NodeBB instance.

I blocked the `threads.net` server as an admin of this server because I recently quit Meta. This is also to free myself from Meta's influence. Additionally, there are many media reports about Meta's misuse of minors' pictures as part of their targeted advertising campaigns. My AI chatbot reported a summary to me, indicating that Meta even defended this behavior, claiming that they had appropriate agreements in place. #Fediverse #Privacy #Safety #DigitalFreedom #OnlineSafety #Meta #Threads #Decentralization #DataPrivacy #DigitalRights #Blocklist #FreedomOnline #Transparency #UserControl
