Anyone know of any job openings for someone like me?
Not a tech girlie, but have a masters in public policy and social research, two decades of experience in the nonprofit world with community and youth development, and I speak Japanese and Moroccan Arabic in addition to English. I am open to almost anything, at this point.

That was my rec as well. When we were hiring for our NGO, that is where we would list jobs. It's really easy to search by job titles and location. -

@JoscelynTransient yes. “Paraprofessional” not that they use that word much. I have a BA in art history. That’s it. Often they will ask for a library degree and library experience, but also will accept related experience. The bigger money comes with a degree, of course, but you can get hired without. You can also start at the bottom…. Volunteering while applying, and have a goal of pursuing a library degree in the future. It’s all wiggly. Look at all the places near you or where you can be, if no jobs listed, sign up for job interest cards, which is merely an email saying, “oh hey, a job came up in library work, interested?” Fill those out because it can take awhile for jobs to open, and it open and close fast. I got a job as an on-call, started being offered regular shifts, then permanent part time. Every library will be different. That said it’s a pretty nice crew of people, and the public where I am at now.
Library degrees can be cheaper in other states, online. Community colleges sometimes offer a library tech certificate (easy like an AA or less). Also age doesn’t matter. I think your languages could be selling points depending on the area and population a library serves, I can’t look back at what else you had written but it would be easy to sell yourself as an asset. Youth programming, public experience, etc
College libraries, museum libraries, law school libraries, public and state libraries. I did a short stint at a medical school, and that was a blast. -

@JoscelynTransient Pro Publica is hiring. So is Tor project. Not sure if any are non-coding jobs. I can't seem to locate one I saw that I thought someone with your skill set would be better for, as it has been a few weeks.
One time, when I couldn't find a job the usual way, I started sending my resume blindly to companies. A CEO called back. It went to him instead of HR, and he was very happy to hire me. If you keep hitting dead ends, it's an approach that once worked for me.

@kkavee main focus was mixed methods (including ethnography and social psychology) research on intergroup collaboration and social change. This included areas of peace building, international development, community organizing, and gender equity, among other things.

@JoscelynTransient Unfortunately, due to California's worker protection laws, Eagle doesn't hire there. Here in Virginia, I can work 3 12's in a row and not get overtime pay, as the state adheres to the Federal rules.
In California, that would be 24 hours of regular wages and 12 hours of OT. -

@JoscelynTransient Thinking of my top 5 jobs, Upward Bound in Pomona CA and West Basin MWD in Carson CA were both great jobs. Upward Bound might be a better fit given your experience with Youth.

@chi hello! My guides are specifically about self-hosting with a VPS because an old machine opens up a can of worms for newbies and a VPS is so much easier.

Where do I start?
1) W Social is a fork of ATProto (aka Bluesky, something that the writer dismissed).
2) "Conspiracy Theorists"? Well, Euronews was the first to fact check with the European Commission, which denied any involvement.

I'm looking to self host as well but would like to buy a small server that is easy to set up with Yunohost - I can even buy it physically in Paris. Do you have any recommendations or tutorials?
VPS prices have risen too much because of the RAM price issue worldwide so I want to save costs by putting the server at home. I use it mainly for streaming videos with jellyfin and storing files.

@Tutanota I think it's great that, finally, privacy oriented alternatives are getting the attention they deserve. But this must become a principle to defend on itself, because it took the tech bros political marriage to Trump in order to change minds. When these tech bros were still large donors to the democratic party, privacy and digital rights were widely derided or even frowned upon. So hopefully we learn from this, and start taking a longer term position on our digital rights.
