@sashin I’m having a moment. Systemd came later, was this NEWFANGLED THING at some point. But now I can’t remember what it replaced.
Oh that’s right. We used to edit files in like /etc/init.d, linking them into /etc/rc3.d for runlevel 3.
I never did like systemd (waves cane at sky)

@sashin The most popular "out of the box" option with good documentation is OpenRC. runit is another popular option and is generally more stable. S6 is focused on speed but is probably the most difficult to configure. Apparently there's a more user friendly focused version of S6 called suite66 but I know very little about it.
