Do third party apps compare to what existed for Twitter? Are people writing enough AltText and also keep their posts otherwise accessible?@PaulaToThePeople Oh my goodness the alt text is beautiful. Being honest, if there were images I couldn't interact with, I would just skip on by and not feel particularly left out, I wouldn't care. I didn't know what I was missing, but now, being able to interact with images, understand them, makes me share them, makes me feel more a part. I particularly love the nature images. The effort and detail people put into describing them means a lot to me.

There are things mine can't do, like make polls and some other stuff. I wish I could see who other people are following and who their friends are like I could on Twitter. I wish I could see their favourites, but, all in all, it's pretty good.

@CppGuy Yes, chronological is great. Its been a long time for me that I used other social media, so I don't even really remember, but now I can't immagine a non-chronological feed. That would be horrible.

@PaulaToThePeople a friend of mine set up the az.social instance, asked for some help moderating, and I volunteered. Never expected to be this active, but I found a lot of cool people and started participating too. It’s my only social media presence since 2019 when I ditched Facebook (dead bird site I ditched in 2016).

@lerxst Cool, I should ask people IRL to help me moderate too. That may just be a better strategy than asking them to join as users.

1st time free-libre online presence: #ZeroNet #P2P ~2019. Technically everything I wanted: one sign-up, no instances, no self-hosting complexities, just join or run any kind of site you wanted with a couple of clicks. But so few people, & later lead developer ghosted.
2nd time: "Liberation Day" 🤪 2025. I knew I had to liberate myself from anything US-controlled as much as possible. Joined #Lemmy before I even knew Reddit boss spez was MAGA.

I was banned on Twitter, then I was banned on Bluesky.
Im hopeful the mods will be… well at least say something to stop me from bad behavior before the final ban comes.
I feel like Im looking for a place to be while mentally ill. Bluesky was probably wrong for me since news is a main stress. I need to focus on improvement and the watch parties.

I have always had behavioral issues. I was segregated in school. Behavioral disturbance. Maybe this place is less dogpiling? That’s a hope.

@Energetic_Nova Hm, maybe a smaller server would be better then, where you can get to know your mods and they you?
I'm not sure if the mastodon.social mods will know and consider your past when/if someone reports you.
