1. Follow every hashtag you can think of for anything that interests you
2. Follow every account you see that posts anything that seems remotely interesting
3. Respond to people and try to strike up a conversation
4. Post some stuff maybe I guess?
5. Unfollow the accounts and hashtags it seems like you don’t actually likeThere are more advanced techniques too but that’s a good start

@dougwade thanks for following you own list ❤️ I have a tad more reserved point nr 2 and will follow after I've seen people been a tad interesting for a few occasions, through boosts that have ended up on my timeline. But a very good start indeed

@BegoniaArizona @matt I joined in January this year, and this has been my way as well.

@Kristine The app is completely optional, but if you have one on your phone you are more likely to be getting notifications of mentions and, to me, uploading photos "feels" easier than using the web interface.
There is an official iOS and Android app for Mastodon: https://joinmastodon.org/apps
And if you are on iOS, both @ivory and @MonaApp are nice (paid) options.
Simply sign in to apps with your existing Forkiverse username and password.

@rizole @plutarch @Kristine You might actually see LESS content using the app because the official Mastodon app (for Android, at least) doesn't contain the "from other servers" live feed.
Its a little quality of life update; photo library access feels a little smoother, you get Mastodon in the share screen to post content a little easier, etc. Small things.
When I was on iOS, I preferred @ivory over all the other experiences. Now I'm on Android, I jump between web and the official app.

You might just need to enable it in the app settings.
The app stores don't approve apps with unmoded content.
To get around that, they don't enable the full firehose tab.
I use Tusky for android. Because it was what was recommended when I joined. There is a Mastodon app.
Or you can go to your instance in a web browser and use the "add to home screen"
Have multiple accounts, for different things. App lets me flick between them

Been here a while. Still learning new ways to use it.
Have different ways of using it, depending on which account I am on.
Main account I follow lots of people. Follow some art/craft hashtags. To clean timeline.
If interesting post, will look at who else liked it or boosted, who else follows the author or who they follow.
Dip into the all servers timeline sometimes, to find interesting stuff. Use lots of Filter, block mute, to tame it slightly.

To organise users, you can group them in lists.
You can also group posts of up to 5 hashtags on a tab. Need more hashtags, add more tabs.
Account to noisy? Mute them for a hour or a few days.
