You know what?

You know what? To hell with being @SFWA is saying it’s perfectly fine to use the plagiarism machine *”trained” on work stolen from its dues-paying members* to qualify for a Nebula, and that it in fact encourages doing so.
This is utterly shameful.

Full disclosure: I haven’t been a member since a high-up person in the org (who has since left) informed me years ago that my books had too much romance (“too much kissing” were the words used) and therefore I did not “deserve” to be there. Even had that not occurred, I find this egregious.

Not just egregious and shameful but predatory, and rendering any prize thus awarded utterly unworthy of any prestige.
I’m not even going to say “do better” because the institutional rot appears long-term.

I was initially set to not comment on this more than obliquely, but on reflection… it just makes me more and more irritated.
How dare you, @SFWA. How DARE you treat your members, who have already had their work stolen by the plagiarism machine techbros, like this? Shame on you.

UPDATE: And the blowback was so massive, so instant, that an about-face was issued.
(I would, however, think twice about membership in this organization. You do you.)
