Hello, Fediverse π

@adamvs1 hello!
-
@sophiekaz Hi Sophie! Glad to meet you. Iβm Doug, I live in Southern Ontario, Canada, about a 1 h drive west of Toronto. Iβm a safety engineer, and Iβve been living and working here since the 1990s. I moved to Mastodon in November 2022.
Iβm happily married for more than 30 years, love dogs and am currently staff to an 18 month old toy poodle. Love fast cars and motorcycles, hiking canoeing and camping.
Iβm looking forward to seeing your posts!
@RandomCanuck lovely to meet you too. Southern Ontario sounds like great place for all of that hiking and canoeing. I'm from the highlands of Scotland originally, so have a love for hiking too!
An 18-month-old toy poodle must keep you on your toes. I've got a Saluki, so I understand being "staff" to a dog rather than the other way around :)
Wow, you've been here since 2022, so you're well ahead of me! I'm blown away by how welcoming everyone has been. Looking forward to connecting!

@sophiekaz welcome!
@knowprose thank you for the welcome!

@Holls thank you! I'm so glad too - I'm kicking myself a bit that I didn't do it sooner! It's been amazing so far!

@sophiekaz you're welcome and no problem

-
@knowprose thank you for the welcome!
@sophiekaz only been here since 2022 myself, but having divested myselfbof the centralized stuff, and someone who advocates privacy, seeing someone make the leap is great.
Just reach out to the fediverse if you need help.

@tsvenson Thank you! Already feels like one π
I'm sure you will find much more of the "that feel human" part here for your purposes.
That is one of the best things I've found here, and it has helped me regain belief in that things very much can and will get better.
-
@philpetree Ha, I know that feeling from Instagram! I think it depends a lot on hashtags and timing here. I'm brand new so maybe I'm still in the honeymoon phase, but the engagement so far has been way more than I expected. Keep going!
@sophiekaz I think content type matters too. Family/feelings stuff doesn't seem to play here or on Bluesky, but plays well on threads. Techie stuff doesn't play on threads, but seems to be okay here. @asmartbear and I had that convo, his business posts get more engagement on Bluesky than on threads.

Hello, Fediverse π
I'm Sophie. I run a digital ops consultancy from the south of France, working with purpose-led businesses.
I'm in the process of leaving Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. I got tired of building on platforms that sell our data, gut safety systems to please politicians, and treat people as products.
Still figuring it all out. Would love to connect.

@Blort thank you! The autonomy is a revelation! Having the choice is so refreshing - I'm really enjoying exploring :)

@philpetree @asmartbear interesting, thank you! I've been considering Bluesky, but wasn't sure what the community here thinks of it's ethical credentials... Do you think it's wise for me to sign up? I used to post quite a bit of stuff related to my business...

@tsvenson that's so wonderful to hear, thank you. I've been feeling quite hopeless recently with what's happening in the world, and I'm trying to take control of the things I actually have some influence over, no matter how small, just to feel like I'm doing something. I'm hopeful that if enough of us make these small shifts, the change starts to add up.
