I've been feeling quite hopeless recently with what's happening in the world, and I'm trying to take control of the things I actually have some influence over, no matter how small, just to feel like I'm doing something. I'm hopeful that if enough of us make these small shifts, the change starts to add up.

I don't have a good answer. I have a friend who's a publicist for famous authors, and she advised me to get back on social media and build a following, so a few years ago, I got back on, but I find it all so tedious. LOL Most places I have 500ish followers, and it doesn't change much.

Understandable, as it is the loudest who take up space on the other ones and otherwise. But also since those are driven by other metrics than here.

As with most of #OpenSoruce, Mastodon is built and cared for by people who actually want to use it, and make it all the more usable for others too.

I just recently made the change too!
I mainly did it to get rid of being fed short form content but the lack data being sold is a huge plus in my opinion.

@amblergee thank you! I wouldn't say brave, more that my conscience just couldn't keep up with the mental gymnastics any more. I was literally posting about closing my Amazon accounts on Facebook. The irony of announcing your exit from one billionaire's platform on another billionaire's platform was the final nudge I needed. Really glad to be here!

@philpetree @asmartbear 500 followers while finding the whole thing tedious is honestly impressive! I think that's part of why this place appeals to me. The pressure to perform and game algorithms just doesn't exist here.

I post just as much here as I do elsewhere, I engage more here than elsewhere... so IDK what the difference is.
