    Some implementations skip some of these steps, because they are focused only on processing messages as they arrive. So, I am reluctant to overemphasize the message processing at the expense of the personal datastore functionality.

    @smallcircles @cwebber @steve I'm fine with that.

    However, I think ActivityPub builds up persistent state on the server side which can be read and used by other processors.

    For example, when I `Like` something, it goes into my `liked` collection, and the activity goes into the `likes` for that object. The `Like` activity goes into my `outbox` and others' `inbox`. People can review that information and use it.

    Thank you, that is nice to hear. I am however not an expert, am but a humble generalist and a person who'd love to be in that Solution developer stakeholder role. Who however does not see the fediverse trend in a direction where I'd adopt the technology for what I have in mind. Drifting away from "the promise" that I read in the specs in 2017, and which at the time made me decide to lend a helping hand here and there as facilitator and tech advocate.

    @smallcircles @cwebber @steve I would personally really appreciate that. I also think it'd be helpful for the ecosystem. I like that you combine a high-level social and technical approach to discussions of ActivityPub and the Social Web with an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the details. It's a rare combination and extremely valuable.

    So why don't you use the word REST? I never encountered "read-write API". It is an informal term.

    But that is not the point. You can have a REST API, fine. But that says nothing in itself. What does it expose? You might say "Duh.. ActivityPub!" but that is not very informative either. There is the notion of message exchange, and of an addressing mechanism, indicating higher level abstractions that conform to well-known architecture patterns, and would allow us to have more productive communication, delve less in implementation details and confusions of protocol behavior with solution design functionality, for starters.

    @PaulaToThePeople totally agreeI worked on dairy bacterial tests for a couple of years and collected samples from dairies all over. The recent article on a baby that 'may' have died because of a glass of raw milk the mother drank is such a sad joke. If people were generally aware of the insane load of these pathogens like listeria that are allowed in US milk and probably everywhere else it would kill the milk industry. Most of the contamination is coming from growth in the lines of the machines they use to pasturize or sterilize which are difficult to clean. Killing the dairy industry would be a great contribution to lowering carbon polution since dairy cows are largely kept inside many industrial countries and the petrol used to raise their grain, keep them clean, mulch their manure and dead, and harvest the milk is outrageous compared to the food value.

    I'm reading up on everything available on the #fediverse. I was so proud of myself before for making the switch, but now I feel my age (way #over50👵🏿). This video is a big help but I still have a long way to go in terms of understanding everything. And I'm sort of down and overwhelmed about it. In any case grazie mille @_elena per il tuo video!     I'm against banning social media for under 16's. Just outright banning doesn't make something unavailable - just unregulated and not monitored. Alcohol and vapes are still common among under 16's - especial those that are vulnerable. I am for under 16's not being allowed on corporate socials though - as they are toxic places which do provably screw with brain development in youth - because of that algorithmic nature. I am considering pitching an idea to a local established non-profit that I sometimes work with, who run a number of local youth clubs across the region. It is an idea of setting up a fediverse instance for 11-15 year olds. An account can only be made in person alongside being a member of a youth club -with parent / guardian consent. It will not be federated to the general social web, and begin as a self-contained bubble - but with the idea of other regions creating the same thing and federating together. It would be moderated by the same volunteers / employees that run the youth clubs and social services - who are fully vetted, and follow the protocols - which already also includes moderating each other. Perhaps even somehow make it so the kids can't post on it during school hours, and after, perhaps, 10pm? There would of course be a set of standards expectations, or community codes of conduct, like here in the Fedi. Perhaps also running regular fun things too, that get kids thinking creatively (like what happens at the clubs anyway). There are of course many many issues with this idea, and I can't see it actually happening just like that. Not only is there unlikely the right fedi project to accommodate needs, but things like the online safety act potentially blocking the ability to create safe community based social networks for youth. And I'm sure there are many other issues as to why this idea might not work either. Like, what happens when someone turns 16? Are they just kicked off? However, I do know that corporate socials are bad - but not providing good safe alternatives when attempting to protect children, actually makes them more vulnerable and unsafe. We need a way to embrace them, not outcast them.#socialban #socialmedia #fediverse #activitypub #youthwork #onlinesafety

    @mlabowicz Thanks! I’ll have to figure out how to get this done. Right now, #Emissary is pretty light on stats and analytics, but I can see how this would help make it fun for people to use :)
