Ever wonder why you see the #fedi22 hashtag in bios?Yeah, that's my fault. I built a People Directory in 2022 for the #fediverse that used that hashtag for verification.I'll improve it and make it way better, perhaps with Starter Pack support ๐Ÿ˜‰https://fediverse.info/explore/people

Hello Fediverse -- let's have an #introduction and introduce ourselves :3We're dotmeow, a queer-run community project to register the gTLD .meow. But not only for meows and giggles! The profits of this gTLD shall go to community causes, turning every domain into queer community support, especially focusing on trans issues. While we've already passed the ICANN Application Support Program, we're just now launching our web & social media presence(s). So while there's not much to see here yet, follow us if you're interested in registering a .meow domain and potentially supporting us in the way -- crowdfunding TBA soon.Outside of announcements we want to engage with the fediverse as regular fedizens and won't spam you with meaningless ads <3

Today I discovered the Fediverse Software Database, and itโ€™s a bit disheartening to see how many platforms have so few users. What are some ways we could help promote these smaller or newer Fediverse projects and give them more visibility?

Emphasizing moderation differences and such are things best left to discover after the user successfully lands onto the fediverse. At the start they shouldn't even have to think about what instance they want to land on. We're approaching it with the mindset that they "want to join Lemmy/Piefed" โ€” that's not right! They should want to join a specific community, and the server just happens to be whatever they find first. Let's say I like Star Trek. I shouldn't have to be redirected to startrek.website. I should be able to see the community, think "cool I want to participate", and sign up, even if where I landed happens to be feddit, db0, or a random NodeBB instance.
