Unnecessary brioche stitch hat is complete!
I say unnecessary because I donāt really need another hat and I only made it to use up some good leftover yarn.
When I was making it, I thought the left hand version looked better, but wearing it I now prefer the right.
What do you think?
@Sobtanian Iād prefer the left. But seriously cool (warm) hat!

@Sobtanian I prefer the right but that you can change it is the nicest part. It turned out so well!

@Sobtanian I like both and your alt text is on point š¤£
Brioche stitch in two colors always looks so cool to me, but at the same time like unnecessary hassle š is it as difficult as I think it is?@scintilla not really, itās actually simpler with two colours as you can see the yarn overs easier. Once you get the hang of it itās very straight forward.
BUT!
Decreases *are* fiddly (not hard just fiddly) so as it gets smaller, it gets fiddler and the margin for error is very small.
Donāt let me put you off, if youāve got some yarn thatās left over just play about with it and see. I used this free pattern https://www.purlsoho.com/create/2025/09/09/two-color-brioche-hat/

@venite thanks. Itās a bit too bulky for my liking but wow is it warm so Iāll be wearing it when itās subzero again.

@Sobtanian I like how bulky hats frame the face, but to each their own :) good to know that at least itās practical!

@Sobtanian *bookmarks* oh, thank you! I inherited a stash, so I do have a lot of left over yarn that's really nice...
Yeah, my mom told me that brioche can be fiddly because you can't really "catch" a dropped stitch.

@scintilla sheās kinda right but with two colours itās really easy to see a drop.
Repairing it, however, requires a crochet hook and a simple rhyme: under one, over two, pull through!
This video explains it really well: https://youtu.be/AzrTu2t6CzI
