Moved on from mystery networking wire to a mystery #electrical circuit.
I have a receptacle and a light switch where the light switch does nothing, and I'm not sure what circuit the outlet is on.
Expecting a call from a guy in Sweden: "Stop flicking that light switch, you're driving us nuts!" -

Expecting a call from a guy in Sweden: "Stop flicking that light switch, you're driving us nuts!"ID'd the circuit, and verified that the switch is indeed just a hole-filler. I've seen this before – the result of the silly situation where a fully operational light switch costs $2 but a blank piece of plastic to fill a switch hole is $8.
Just for added fun, there's a second wire, (only neutral spliced ?) leaving the utility box… on a circuit that has no other loads.
I suspect an abandoned, now-covered, light fixture. I think I'll clean that up. The wires are 1950s vintage.
