I just remembered this Fedi hashtag relay thingy exists:
Say you want to follow a hashtag. Generally, you only see posts with that tag if they are *coincidentally* pulled to your instance (eg. an instance user follows the author, or boosts the post, etc.)
Well there's a relay service which lets you follow a hashtag as if it was an *account*, meaning *every* post gets pushed to your instance.
On your instance, search for "https://relay.fedi.buzz/tag/[hashtag]" and follow the resulting user account!

What's more: from the page at https://relay.fedi.buzz, it claims that if you follow a hashtag which is just a word, it will also deliver you posts with that word *plus* a trailing number. This way you can follow hashtags that include variable dates or a year!
Eg. if I follow #cutegirltober, I should also receive any posts with #cutegirltober2025. But I have to confirm that for myself still.

@jsstaedtler it's an interesting solution. With these kinds of services there's always the matter of consent, but for hashtags it can be assumed that public posts with hashtags are intended to be discoverable in the first place, I think.

Finally: I believe the relay does not collect any posts with a particular hashtag if no one has subscribed to it yet. For that reason, when I searched for "https://relay.fedi.buzz/tag/squirrel" and opened the resulting account, it had zero posts. How could there be no #squirrel posts on all of the Fediverse??
But if I follow that account, any *new* posts with "#squirrel" should then be relayed through it, and I'll see them in my home feed.
