It's way too long and confusing. I've drafted this and will try to cut it down and make it less... of a mess later today.
If you have the time or energy to offer feedback after reading this it'd mean a lot to me.
Streetsblog is a non-profit that promotes good public transportation, and safer city streets. (so them not having alt text is sad... but there is just so much to be done)
@futurebird Later, after my brain starts working again.

I'm literally a school teach in the middle of exams. I want to do this. I don't have much time to work on it at all.
In fact, there are *several* NYC non-profits that have been asking similar questions and so a good letter can be reused as a template. I know this one is a mess.
Seriously thank you for your time if you help.

@futurebird great ideas in there. I think every journalist should have an account on the fedi, and the idea of offering their members their domain addresses on the fedi is great!

@futurebird a few things that stood out to me. First, highlight some fedi-people who are activists in their subject of interest, with links to their accounts so they can see how much useful positive engagement they get. Second, I'd drop the bit about offering accounts on a server - that sounds like a lot of work. Third, if they're using multiple social media things already, suggest management tools that will handle all those plus the fedi.

@futurebird basically, make it more obvious what they'll get out of it (not what would improve your experience) and how they can do it with minimum effort.

I think it would be worth mentioning the following servers:

http://carfree.city

@futurebird This is my accountability post to you. I will read through and see what I can add later. I've been thinking about this myself for a while. So many nonprofits should know about the fediverse, and don't.

http://social.ridetrans.itThis is great - I've just done a redraft for @futurebird, and in my notes of what I _hadn't_ done was to suggest a good server to sign up to and a few similar accounts to have a look at!

Looks as though this one might be a good one to recommend as home base:
"Urbanists.Social is a Mastodon instance for urbanists - people who are into bikes, transit, and / or walkable cities."
(the other two which @gbargoud suggested seem to be geographically specific, and that one not)

@futurebird Later, after my brain starts working again.
People offering to help @futurebird with the letter - just so you know, I've done a redraft of the text, so maybe don't put too much effort into feedback on the original draft till the new one's been looked at.
Something we don't yet have on hand is a list of a few existing "active travel / transit" accounts (or lively posts) with which to say to the streetsblog person "this is the kind of conversation which goes on here". So ideas for those are also a potentially useful contribution in the meantime :-)

@futurebird I love that you’re doing this. I want to do the same for several orgs (and gov). I’m hoping you’ll share when it’s done and allow (encourage) others to take and modify for other targets. Thanks for getting the ball rolling.

@unchartedworlds @futurebird I'm in London so I mostly see UK and European accounts like that - but maybe someone like @jon knows of people over the other side of the pond.

@futurebird Great initiative!
I'm not sure if my 4 minute Fedi intro video can help, but here it is: https://blog.elenarossini.com/fediverse-video/
If it helps I could add the script somewhere so you could copy and paste bits of text that you may find useful.
My synopsis: "The Fediverse explained in 4 minutes: watch now to discover a whole new world of social media, where privacy is respected, users are empowered, and Big Tech has no say."
