Australia is trialling a new national emergency alert system that can send loud alerts to phones during serious events, even if the phone is locked, on do-not-disturb or on silent. If you keep a spare or private phone for safety, privacy, or personal reasons, it might be worth making sure it’s completely powered off while the tests are happening — not just on silent or airplane mode.
