My husband got some good quality speakers. Last night we had friends over, and he played this song for them, to demonstrate. Most of them smiled and nodded politely and continued with their conversation.
But the musician in the group: his eyes opened wide as he listened, and he said, "That's a good song for selling speakers." -

We had to make room for them, which ended up changing three different rooms, and I moved my home office to an adult kid's former bedroom. There's lots of blue. Too much blue. I want orange accents like these robes against this blue background.

Listening to it through my hearing aids, I can only imagine what it would sound like on an actual sound system (the fact that I need these hearing aids also means that I can only imagine what it would sound like on an actual sound system).
Another really good album I know of that's used to show off high-end audio is Patricia Barber's "Modern Cool".

So there was already a chain reaction that impacted three rooms. And then last week, the sprinklers malfunctioned at my husband's office at work and ruined most of the books he had there. We had been thinking for some time that we should move his home office upstairs from the basement, in case of any flooding. This was the impetus to make us finally act. So now every single room in the house has been rearranged except the kitchen.

And in rearranging all this stuff, we made room to set up my old keyboard, that had been in a closet, unused, for several years. And I'm pretty amazed at how my fingers still remember how to play. I'm rusty, for sure, but the muscle memory takes over to an amazing extent.

Building an LC Meter with a Franklin Oscillator
Although it dates back to the early days of the Marconi Company in the 1920s, the Franklin oscillator has remained a relatively obscure circuit, its memory mostly kept alive by ham radio operators who prize its high stability at higher frequencies. At the core of the circuit is an LC tank circuit, a fact which [nobcha] used to build quite a precise LC meter.
The meter is built around two parts: the Franklin oscillator, which resonates at a frequency defined by its inductance and capacitance, and an Arduino which counts the frequency of the signal. In operation, the Arduino measures the frequency of the original LC circuit, then measures again after another element (capacitor or inductor) has been added to the circuit. By measuring how much the resonant frequency changes, it’s possible to determine the value of the new element.
Before operation, the meter must be calibrated with a known reference capacitor to determine the values of the base LC circuit. In one iteration of the design, this was done automatically using a relay, while in a later version a manual switch connects the reference capacitor. Because the meter measures frequency differences and not absolute values, it minimizes parasitic effects. In testing, it was capable of measuring inductances as low as 0.1 µH.
We’ve seen a few homebrew LC meters here, some battery-powered and some rather professional.
