They also renamed a section of the Grand Rue in memory of Funky Claude, which is nice.
I had hoped that a Sunday evening train up into the mountains would be nicely quiet. Instead it is full of tired, cranky toddlers.

I thought “Maybe I should have taken the direct Flixbus to Aosta” but that bus is currently being held up right after the tunnel by camouflaged Italians with automatic weapons.

Needless to say, the hourly bus down to Aosta left ten minutes ago. Gives me some time to look at pretty mountains sunbathing.

All the regional busses in Valle d’Aosta are free during fall. That makes things easier.

Needless to say, the train down towards Torino left four minutes before our arrival. Gives me time to look at Aosta.

These trains apparently are dual-mode diesel and electric, so then can switch to electric once they reach the electric network half-way into their two hour journey to Torino.

Engineering works between Valenza and Alessandria caused the train from Pavia to come in 17 minutes late. They turned it around in five minutes and we are off again with just 3 minutes delay. Might even make my 11 minute connection in Pavia.

First stop in Valmadonna and we are back on time. Someone really needs to tip off the Germans about this padding thing they have going on here.

I should probably explain: Timetable padding is a technique where you add a few extra minutes into the timetable as a backup when things aren’t going quite as planned. It used to be that everything was always late in Italy but by realising that trains just pick up delays around busy stations for no obvious reason and countering by adding some of this padding into the timetable, trains have become a lot more reliable.

@TazPoltorak I'd be quite wary of polar fleece (and synthetic wadding) melting at oven temperatures
if you have some wool scraps they may work instead of the thermo insulation, but maybe you'd need a bigger thinkness, and with cotton you'd definitely need more than either.

@andre123 per i regali aggiungerei un consiglio: prima di regalare una stilografica indagate su come il destinatario preferisce scrivere: regalare un pennarello a chi scrive microfilm, o uno spillo a chi vuole vedere il colore dell'inchiostro che usa, sono buoni metodi per rischiare che la penna finisca nel cassetto.
Le opinioni forti sulle dimensioni delle penne invece credo che siano una cosa più da chi già usa le stilografiche (o da chi ha problemi di varia natura alle mani), però nel dubbio eviterei le misure estreme e starei più sulle vie di mezzo, sempre per evitare il cassetto.

Sono i pannelli in CORTEN ovvero acciaio che si arruginisce in superficie ma non va oltre.
I writer secondo me li odiano, prenderebbero tanta vernice.
Se poi sono quelli forati co isolante al centro... AUGURI!

@futurebird the problem is that lending (money or anything else for that matter) *is* a service that people need, and as such it deserves compensation. What's interesting is that it has been known for millenia how easy it is to abuse, which is why e.g. some religious texts include rules that either prohibit or severely restricts lending on interest.
