Special Friday post…
It’s one year this month we’ve been in the new house. We got the keys on 5 December last year, in fact. A lot has been done and a lot more still to do.
As I’ve periodically shared, the widow left items for us in the house. This huge armoire is the most spectacular item. It’s 210 x 205 x 70cm. Weighs a tonne. Cannot be moved (and hasn’t been, barely) w/o taking it apart. Decor all hand done. Assessed to be from early-mid 19th.

Ikea would make 42 full bedrooms with the same volume of wood 😄

As a woman selling antique furniture (at very good prices, nice furniture and not overpriced) once told me: in this time, we are bartering real wood for pressed cardboard....we are probably going mad.

@GustavinoBevilacqua @wedge I’ve been lucky enough that my family preserved many “old” furniture. I have a picture of my young grandpa sitting in this armchair , which is my favourite. And it’s still as solid as new (of course lining and padding have been changed many times in a century)
