  • @QudsNen i would not take her words at face value. Recently she commented on a pro-pal crowd who forcedly broke into an all in all balanced newspaper and threatened the hell out of journos. She basically said that now they know better how to report. This reads like approving fascist methods, plus she's been caught spreading falsehood in her reporting.

The decision to sanction her – as many of the current administration's similar actions – is despicable and egregious, no doubt.

Link would be nice, seeing as you're going for a character assassination.

    Hi @iju

What @carlopiana said is merely an ideological interpretation of Francesca Albanese's statements. A tendentious interpretation that the entire Italian media and, naturally, the strongly pro-Israeli Italian government have adopted out of corporate solidarity.

    The facts: a premise

La Stampa is a Turin-based daily newspaper that is now part of the same publishing group as La Repubblica. Traditionally aimed at a left-wing audience, La Stampa has adopted a stance uncritically supportive of the Netanyahu government, the ongoing extermination in Gaza, and violently critical of anyone who seeks—to simplify—to defend the Palestinians' right to survive.

La Stampa, therefore, favors and promotes the extermination of the inhabitants of Gaza.

The facts: the raid on the La Stampa newspaper offices

On November 28, the day of the general strike and the national journalists' strike, about a hundred protesters stormed the main editorial office of the newspaper La Stampa on Via Lugaro in Turin, defacing the walls and trashing everything they found.

    Francesca Albanese's statements

"I condemn (the raid on La Stampa, in Turin, ed.). "We must not commit acts of violence against anyone, but at the same time, this should also be a warning to the press** to get back to doing their job."

    Conclusions

Although a violent attack on a newspaper editorial office is an extremely serious act, Seriously, it's clear that the Turin editorial staff of La Stampa's uncritical support and justification of Israel's extermination have undermined the basic rules of political discourse, which dictate that newspapers should not be attacked.

Protesters who attack a newspaper's editorial staff are therefore automatically in the wrong, but it would be inappropriate to eliminate that newspaper's scandalous and inhuman editorial line from the equation.
Francesca Albanese simply expressed this thought: 1) I condemn the protesters, 2) but we must not forget that this violent reaction stemmed from incorrect journalism.
Naturally, most Italian media outlets, both on television and in print, have decided to use these statements by Francesca Albanese to continue the character assassination that two foreign powers, namely the Trump administration and the State of Israel, want to inflict upon her.

It's so dramatically biased that the UN Secretary's spokesperson was careful to distance the UN from the horrific position this person took. If you find it normal, go on with that. There must be no "but" after condemning violence against journalists, whatever stance they take, IMVHO. https://x.com/UNWatch/status/1996334560041410647?t=qzQYhCSRlCvhpZ0cwA01rg&s=19

@carlopiana Let's avoid manipulating the facts, please!
The spokesperson simply reiterated what Francesca Albanese herself has said dozens of times.
The statements of the GS spokesperson are simply a ritual statement to prevent manipulators from twisting the narrative to their advantage.

I would also add that it would be appropriate to avoid inventing the facts: there was no attack on journalists. The newspaper's offices were empty at the time. EMPTY! It's truly incredible that so much importance is given to an act of vandalism, when not only is the extermination of human beings of all ages currently underway ignored, but it is justified in the most despicable ways.

  • @macfranc @news Maledetti token. Criminali. Discriminatori.
