OMG! Who else recalls the days when HP's (non-HP-UX) minicomputers and their HP-UX workstations used HP-IB (practically the same as GPIB, I think?) to connect external disks, at a glorious 1 MB/s, I think it was? Those stackable connectors were kinda cool.
The evolution of data cabling is amazing. Just some 40 years ago, thick and very unwieldy cables like those in the picture were used to transport measly megabytes per second. Now much thinner cables reach gigabytes per second easily. What are the main technological advances that have enabled this?
