The missus put on a docufilm. About a famous USian. A white man.
They go through his objectively great achievements. Which are really great.
Then they ask him about questionable behavior. The famous person is appalled that acting like every other white cis het man could offend anyone in any way.
Then the docufilm tries to do a bit excusing questionable behavior because of N things (parenting, drugs, etc). But some of those things are entirely preventable.

I don't know if the docufilm is trying to clean famous person's image. It kinda feels that way tho.
I guess I should care less.
But I'm kinda tired of, "This famous (A.K.A. rich) person is just human like you and me."

"That's not who I am!"
Is something that is totally valid.
But only if they could follow that up with, "Hey, help me understand/confirm what I did wrong, so I can make appropriate amends AND offer my sincere apologies."
That they never arrive at even trying to apologize makes me think that yes, yes indeed, yes that is exactly who they are.
PS: The "Oh, woe is me, you telling me that I did something wrong makes my life so much difficult!", was just gross.

Instead of feigning ignorance, "I did/said what!?"
IMHO, you know what would have been impressive? Them saying something like:
"Yes, I remember being insensitive that one time in 19XX towards a group of people. I regretted that ever since. So I established a fund to help that community, and have never again talked negatively about that community or any other such related persons. You can check my record on that."
