My husband and I are not "two people who have a pet cat."
-
@futurebird Is Pica a kidney cat?
Yes. She needs to reduce her protein intake. But she also had a thyroid problem that made her lose a lot of weight a year ago (her pills have fixed this) I'm wary of her eating any less since she's doing so well.
She's 18 as well and very happy playful and healthy. So I think about her quality of life a lot.
Eating food is one of her favorite things next to being petted and complimented.
(She love it when you talk to her and tell her how lovely she is.)

She is not his pet, he is, I think her legal advocate.
"My client is registering a formal complaint about the lateness of breakfast."
"My client may start formal proceedings against you if this healthy low protein diet program continues."
"I do not know the current location of my client, but I would point out that for this hearing such information is not within the rights of the court."
Does she pay him? How?
@futurebird are you the defendant? Or the opposing council?

I know this won't make much sense but... I think I'm ALSO her "legal advocate" and the points of contention between us, as perfectly aligned parties, are all over how to best serve the desires of our client ... the questions of what is reasonable do not enter this court.

@futurebird think about the phrase "humans have domesticated the cat" and in how many ways it's wrong 🙃

@futurebird But of course we are subservient to the masters of the home and have to have food available and clean up any messes
with repayment of affection and being told when bedtime is and sometimes very loudly when the nanny says it's time it's time
... never had any issues with breakage or toilet paper unrolled .. she had her bowl of water in tub and an upstairs bowl with cibble for snacking and another on main level to be handy with a bowl of wateras well as her 2x daily of wet food prior to my being able to eat and of course should she want a taste of it as well ...tried to feed real fish halibut and had nose turned up against it sadly...
now tuna was another story
Sadly after 13 years the poor thing had eaten contaminated cibble with carpet bugs .. Food was kept in plastic containers mixed after bringing home and unable to trace who was at fault and poor thing perished in months ...
Which we never had carpet in home and was then also an issue in many other home issues ... -

@futurebird My wife is currently unable to get out of bed and start the day because @Menhit has decided to lie across the back of both her knees, pinning her down.
It is 3:05pm.
Am thinking about springing her from jail by bribing the screw: should be sufficient if I open a tube of Churu in the kitchen …

@futurebird felines are authoritarians who demand to be treated like royalty. they have serfs & slaves.
i am no great fan, as you can imagine.
i was stupid enough to adopt a cat once, she ruled like thatcher in my neighbourhood.
i only had dogs after she passed the rainbow bridge due to even more aggressive cancer than she was. strangely i did 🖤 her.. -

@futurebird @Twotired This was my question too

@futurebird It’s a dilemma. Our 20 year old has finally accepted Royal Canin Renal Support D, but she’s much more enthusiastic about regular food (and the human food that my wife keeps slipping her). I’m trying to keep her diet strict, but my wife (not unreasonably) is more inclined to give her what she enjoys most and will eat more of.

@futurebird The good news is that kidney cats can live many happy years, especially if you’re willing to administer subq fluids when it gets to that point. I believe that Sahara is our fifth kidney cat (apparently they’re pretty much all kidney cats if they get old enough).

@futurebird I imagine both Pica and your husband are too clever to trade in mere purrs and pats. He knows that Pica keeps you physically occupied and internally regulated. It is in his interest to maintain this system of stability.
