@eniko the problem with conspiracy theory nuts isn't that they think there's a big evil conspiracy, it's that they think it's competent and secret

The world is so screwed up it's getting harder and harder to distinguish actual, definitely real stuff from conspiracy nonsense...

@eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place I'm leaning into it. many wouldn't listen anyway, so why not make them uncomfortable enough to not talk to me again? and for the ones who do listen, they can either do something about it or enjoy the guilt I awaken in them

@eniko To be fair they make up simple explanations that can be disproven in minutes. I’ve never ran into a conspiracy theory that isn’t batshit crazy. From Jews eating babies to 9/11 to 5G to flat earth. All batshit.
The government hiding things on the other hand we have a ton of examples of already, as long as it’s not outlandish. MKULTRA is a good example.

@adaliabooks @eniko Just two examples for this:
- "There is this circle of wealthy elites involved in human trafficking and sexual exploitation of minors."
This could be both, Pizzagate (conspiracy theory) or Epstein (real).- "There exists a technology to make cars run without the need for expensive gasoline, but the wealthy elites are suppressing it via disinformation campaigns."
Could be the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water-fuelled_car conspiracy theory, or could just be about real electric cars... -

@eniko The problem of conspiracy theorists is not that they have theories, it's that they have no facts. It's alright to have theories about conspiracies when you can back them up with facts.
Sometimes, there really are conspiracies. Remember when Stalin and Hitler conspired to split up Poland? They even wrote their future crimes up in a "secret protocol".
