Does anyone know of schools using something other than #GoogleClassroom for schools and education?

Does anyone know of schools using something other than #GoogleClassroom for schools and education? Maybe in #SchleswigHolstein Maybe in #Österreich? (you seem progressive in digital sovereignty). Or maybe my next door neighbour #Danmark?
It'd be nice to have some exchange of experiences between the board of education for the municipality of #Lund (we need to learn) and some other city.
If there is one? 😀
#DigitalSovereignty #DigitaleSuveränität@leanderlindahl Maybe talk to @jeppe

#DigitalSovereignty #DigitaleSuveränität@leanderlindahl Sounds like you're looking for a Learning Management System (LMS). There is an open source one which is actively used in The Netherlands, named Canvas.

@jpostma Sounds interesting, do you know of a specific municipality or school district where it's used. I'm thinking maybe there could be some exchange (for us to learn) and then I need specific politicians or civil servants to start a dialogue with.

@heleenkuiper @venite Hi Heleen! Sounds interesting, do you have any more details of whom one could start a conversation with to learn more?

@leanderlindahl Maybe talk to @jeppe
@jonassmith @jeppe Great tip. I "see" Jeppe all the time here on Masto. It'd be a killer if they're doing something non-google, non-microsoft in schools in Denmark.

@jpostma @leanderlindahl many schools and universities in Australia use it, too.

#DigitalSovereignty #DigitaleSuveränität@leanderlindahl My company works for a school where we setup opensource tools like proxmox to run projects for students.

#DigitalSovereignty #DigitaleSuveränität@leanderlindahl my Austrian school - over 10 years ago - used Moodle for highschool classes. No software at all used for the middleschool classes back then. I have no idea about current status quo though.

#DigitalSovereignty #DigitaleSuveränität@leanderlindahl Hi, maybe give the guys from @osos_austria a shot.
They are a few it teachers from austrian schools, that use linux and free software in different use cases.

#DigitalSovereignty #DigitaleSuveränitätThanks for all the amazing feedback. To clarify I would need clear examples of a school or schools and a municipality or district that are using software other than MS/Google so that I can bring an example and say:
"Look at these guys, they're not using Google Classroom. Why don't we talk to them and learn from what they're doing and run a pilot to see if we could do something similar?"

#DigitalSovereignty #DigitaleSuveränität@leanderlindahl oh I'd be really interested in following this discussion... can you create a custom hashtag for it?

I'm not at all knowledgable in this area (yet), but I assume the use cases are:
• teacher-student e-mail,
• groups,
• shared files,
• shared calendars
• online collaboration tools for writing and presenting -

@_elena 😃 Elena! Yes, do you have any suggestions?
# EUClassRoom, # LibreClass ? It's tough coming up with a good one. The essence should be about "libre" educational collaboration tools... -

The essence should be about "libre" educational collaboration tools...@leanderlindahl@social.folkdata.se @_elena@mastodon.social # LibreClassroom sounds good, it doesn't seem like a thing that would need to be EU only (as long as solutions are able to be hosted in the EU). I'd be interested in this as well.

@_elena@mastodon.social @leanderlindahl@social.folkdata.se To get the ball rolling, NextCloud do offer an education product (including a hosted option) and are based in Germany, I believe. That said, I haven't used it and I don't know where the hosting happens. nextcloud.com/education/

@_elena@mastodon.social @leanderlindahl@social.folkdata.se (for context, NextCloud can be self hosted and is open source but the fact they offered paid for enterprise options to schools and universities suggests they think it can take the place of classroom in at least some ways)
