It's time for building work.

  • More of the edging, most of the handles, many of the holes I asked for are there so cables can get where they need to. They've been painting a bit and varnishing a bit and the coving is prepared for the gap above the windows there.

One more day, they say. One more day. I'll have to make a list of everything still to be done over the weekend.

Not finished today, but surely surely finished tomorrow!?

Mirrors stuck onto the doors. Quite a lot of mirror. Makes the room feel bigger.

All the trim and handles are on now. Just one hole for cables missing. Catches need to be put on the blind-doors. Adjusting the doors so they open and close smoothly. Couple of lights to be attached. Painting and decorating touch-up.

Actually do believe they'll finish tomorrow.

Hard to photograph these little alien owls that are reading lights in the headboard. They seem to have shipped with a cable which doesn't really fit into their cable holes. Needs one with a tight right angle.

Not the final lights but ones with batteries I have lying around. They'll have lights chasing up and down the length of the windows and changing colour and warping when it's done next year.

Make 'em flash with the materialisation noise as an alarm clock maybe 😆

Bedroom is done! Well. Builders are finished anyway. I still have to buy a bed and stuff to put in it, and since I've spent all my money that'll have to wait until payday. And then it's nearly xmas so probably better to wait until January.

There's a clasp missing to hold the window shutters shut. The one we had was too big. Should be able to screw one in myself tomorrow.

Doing all the lights and stuff will takes months and months probably.

But I can go back to sleeping in late instead of getting up to let the builders in every day.

What do you think my favourite TV show is?

That's right, it's Buffy The Vampire Slayer. 😆

Three more shots then while it's still nice. Looks pretty great in there, I am pleased.

A little bit of left over wood. I figure best used as spare shelves in the closet and the alcove. A couple of steady boards upon which to rest the treadmill. Extra spare steady board for unknown purposes currently but might as well.

So some bits actually cut and painted myself.

Gotta spin them and do the other side tomorrow.

Then a varnish each side the next two days.

Then the bed arrives. Decided to order it and go overdraft if needed. Ordered in untreated pine so I can paint it to match the cupboards.

So a few days painting that before assembling.

Don't worry, I didn't cut them wrong, they're supposed to not all be square 😆

Varnished the shelves. At least until I ran out of varnish anyway. Stained the first half of the bed. The stain takes ages to dry. Will have to flip and stain the other half tomorrow. Varnish on Tuesday if more has arrived. That dries much faster, might even get two coats on both sides during one day. Then I can have a bed on Wednesday?

At which point I will know the maximum height for a mattress. The bed is pretty low because to determine the height of the doors for storage at the end of the bed, I measured my old bed. Which was apparently lower than most, being a waterbed frame with a spring mattress in it.

So total bed height has to be under 50cm and a mattress can take 30 or more of that. But with this low bed I might even have room for a topper.

I like the smile formed by the bed's legs where it's connections will go.
