@stefano Did you assemble the mini PC yourself or did you buy one ready-made? Any suggestions on brands? I need one, but I'm lazy and don't feel like assembling it myself. And the prices are sky-high.

@stefano Aside from Void and Ubuntu, are there any Linux distributions that provide root on ZFS during installation?

@raffaele it's a ready made one. I bought it exactly one year ago. It's initially been configured as my home server (FreeBSD) but then, in May, I realized it was too much for my home needs. So I reconfigured my former fanless Qotom Intel i7 as home server and "upgraded" this to my workstation. It's a Minisforum UM790 Pro

@catavz for Void, you can't select it during installation, but you have to do it manually.
I'd say Proxmox, but it has a total different purpose. -

@raffaele Having a look - I paid it 100 euros less than its current price. 😔

@stefano Thanks, Minisforum was suggested by others too. Right now it seems like the best deal for money is a Mac mini. But I need something more flexible than macOS (Asahi is not enough mature)

@raffaele unfortunately, prices are skyrocketing at the moment

Actually, I tried to install FreeBSD on my previous laptop, Lemur from System 76. But I guess the Linux Gods didn't allow it. GhostBSD failed to boot on the first attempt due to a disk issue. BastilleBSD couldn't install the desktop. FreeBSD 15 installation was successful, and the desktop was installed. There were problems with installing jail via template with Bastille. -

I think there are still some things that aren't quite right with the packagebase system. Finally, the Lemur laptop reverted back to its original Ubuntu operating system. The difference is that it's Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and root on ZFS. -

@evren no, I haven't. On FreeBSD I'm using Wayland and on the other BSDs, the embedded X server
