This is a pet peeve of mine.
Tea is only the beverage made by steeping tea leaves in hot water.
If it doesn't have tea leaves, it's an infusion.
If it's not even hot water it's neither. -

Ok you immediately sound like a nerd by using the word infusion with such indignation.
I think using the term tea colloquially is fine. Also you at least have to get the water hot to dissolve stuff.
I'm not one for cold tea but you can still drink it. -

I am so glad that in Italy we don't use "tea" for non tea.
Plants have different properties and chamomile has the exact opposite properties of tea.
Calling it tea is just wrong. -

Calling it tea is just wrong.@raccoon I mean I think of tea as just hot plant water.
Granted my OP was intentionally controversial, much in the same way calling a taco a sandwich might be.
It's one of those things where it could technically be considered one if you stretch the definition a little, but nobody would actually call it that, because culturally it's distinct.Anyway, what variety of the broad class of tea do you consider to be the one true tea?

I consider it tea if it's made with tea leaves in hot water.
Any other use should be included in Weird Al Yankovic's song "word crimes". -

@Paradox no it's made from juice not leaf infusion -

@lamp Ok fair, though I will say I just used a mix to flavor hot water into lemonade.
You don't have to juice a lemon about it.That being said, there is a lemon tea, so I don't know how much that differs.
