In America 1910 was old. Then when I arrived in Europe 1666 became my new old. Soon it was 1230. Then 900.
This morning I read that Tétouan Morocco "may" date to the 3rd c. BC and I rolled my eyes so hard. I was looking for early antiquity! Greek Sicily had already flourished and fallen by that point. Sardinia had lost count of its successive civilizations...
So that's how that particular brand of snobbery is going.
