Really liked the Oatmeal comic. I didn't agree with the whole thing though. And that's fine.
I'm not a fan of the "being against AI is being against technology" line of thought. I love tech. But that definitely feels like a caricaturesque punching down.
The air and noise pollution as well as the energy and water consumption issues are very real and they are well documented. Arguing against that is yelling at a cloud because it annoyed you.

and the other thing... I can't help but notice that the users and promoters of AI are always shielded from the immediate consequences of climate breakdown, be it geographically or economically.
To them, this is never a big deal, you're just exaggerating. But it's like the old adage says: climate change isn't real until it's you filming it from your windows.

@eniko yeup, it's the kind of shit that seriously makes me rethink my position on jailing people based on their ideas rather than their action. At the very least we should be allowed to remove from office any politician that tries that shit more than once.
