Labour's core belief is that _they_ are the one-stop shop for delivering political change, their party are the gatekeepers of left-wing political activity
So the success of any other left-wing party is an existential threat to them - as is electoral reform that would effectively eliminate any future Labour majority government. They'd rather lose to the Tories most of the time than be a major partner in a coalition most of the time.

@diffrentcolours @Geri @Lazarou And we have that voting system solely because the Labour party chooses to keep it. The Greens (and Lib Dems and SNP) have been consistently in favour of changing it for years/decades. A couple of years ago even Reform said they were in favour, though this was before they were 1st in the polls.
So yes this is an inevitable consequence of the rules — and Labour chose the rules. The belief that the voting system can't be changed may be a load-bearing part of Labour's perennial tactical vote. -

We had a chance to eliminate tactical voting in the 2011 Referendum, and half the Labour party decided it was more important to give Nick Clegg a bloody nose than support their own manifesto commitment for preference voting.
If I had money and no job I'd be running a grassroots campaign for electoral reform; ERS are too tied up in the Westminster bubble.

My friend @Lazarou
Made a very profound point upon noticing whom the Labour Party seems to be most attacking: the Green Party, that is
He said, "The Labour Party are more concerned about another left wing party, then they are about a racist party."
Once you see this, you can never unsee this.
Gosh!

@Geri @Lazarou Looks like history has been written!!! Next, the Senedd Elections in May, here in Wales 👍🏴✅✊ !
Watch out for labour's version of hasbara to start about the Greens - it started before the vote with starmer accusing them of intending to legalise heroin and crack cocaine ffs. Talk about running scared, lol!

@Geri @Lazarou you could say pretty much the same about the Greens, or Your Party attacking the Labour Party though. And I'm sure with Zac riding high its only a matter of time before the Greens attack Your Party too. Simply because one might be more aligned with the views of one or the other doesn't mean an attack isn't an attack.

@robertklaschka @Lazarou " we are not here to crticise Labour. We are here to replace them," Polanski
The Greens have worked out that the public do not like the politics of opposition

@Geri @Lazarou Just heard starmer on the news, lol! Claims he came to politics for the people, and will continue to fight extremism on the right, and the left, implying the Greens are extremists, lol!
Do you know how to set up questionnaires on here? I don't know how yet, but I'm going to try to put one up, asking 'How would you vote today?', with Labour, Green, Reform, Tory, None of the above, tick boxes - just to get a feeling of political leanings on Mastodon - should be interesting...

the technicality is not an issue - it's the little bargraph symbol somewhere on your field to type posts - it's that your response is determined by your reach in terms of followers and those who boost it.
Also, different apps have more or less options on #poll you can post

@Geri @Lazarou Always. The Right win more General Elections because they care more about winning than they believe in anything. People get quietly taken aside in dark corridors and are expected to go quietly. The Left care so much about tiny details that they fight in public and point out the weaknesses in their colleagues' arguments.

is now suspended on their home account@wavesculptor @Geri Thank you! I'd seen it before, but couldn't remember where it was 🙏.
PS. Why do you say our friend @Lazarou 's account is blocked? I don't understand 🤨.

try clicking on it. I went to investigate the start of the conversation. I have no idea of their posting matetrial or style. Curious though. mastodon.social is a much more "tolerant" instance than I am on!
