Hey @eurekasven7, thanks for the follow request! Unfortunately there's not enough vibe on your profile to check, so...
If you could bring back one fashion trend of a bygone time, and make it popular again (and well into the future), what would it be?
I'd bring back the 80s punk trend of wearing dramatically mismatched clothing—especially textures, colors, and patterns. I already kinda do this with cargo jeans and fluffy pink sweaters, or sparkly heart earrings and steel spiked cuffs.
My choice is whatever this is.

@alice @eurekasven7 CAPES! We need more capes and flowy fashion for guys, I don't care what Edna says about them!

@alice @eurekasven7 men wearing proper (non-baseball) hats.
Edit: I realize the irony of that statement when my profile pic is me in a baseball cap. The pic is old, my fourth full-brim hat was delivered today.

@alice @eurekasven7 hard to choose. Maybe hippie-esque decolorated t-shirts?

@alice @eurekasven7 I want belt pouches, like from the medieval/renaissance/generic fantasy periods. Not full fanny packs; just a smallish external pocket off-center. I’ve got keys, wallet, AirPods, pocket knife, and phone to carry at a minimum. I want something more versatile than cargo pants or a jacket. They can add a splash of color, while bringing utility to the table too.

@FilthyShrooms @alice @eurekasven7 this. Maybe also with pocket watches

@FilthyShrooms @alice @eurekasven7 Not just capes, but full on mother-warming CLOAKS. Give me a heavy drape that can keep out the wind, make me look mysterious, and dramatize a lightning strike in one garment.

JNCOs
Nothing in your post says I have to actually follow the trend but I think that one would be really fun to watch come back

@alice @eurekasven7 I say let's do the medieval (and maybe renaissance?) thing where clothing was more modular.
Instead of wearing a single stitched together pair of pants, there were hose - individual leg garments you tied to a belt - so having two pairs of hose gave you 4 possible leg outfits
Similarly the sleeves that were tied to the bodice or jacket with ribbons - so two dresses with their sleeves gave you at least 4 possible combinations.

@FilthyShrooms @alice @eurekasven7 thinking about one of my friends who spent a year as a visiting professor at MIT and, when asked in a reddit AMA about "what surprised you the most about MIT?" responded "the number of students wearing capes. Why are there so many students wearing capes?"

@alice collapsible hand fans. You can get them at the dollar store. They're not just for power bottoms anymore! They're great, especially if you're the fidgity type (I am).

@alice the elements I'd prefer to bring back from 80s punk would be steel toed leather boots and decorated leather jackets. Everyone's leather jacket was an absolute work of art reflecting their inner angst and loves. Meanwhile steel toed boots are a far better defense for most situations than any weapon.

@drsbaitso @alice @eurekasven7
i've replicated this with small bags and use clips (mostly carabiners clipped to split rings shoved through the bag fabric for anchors) to clip the bag to pants belt loops. or just use the shoulder strap as a waist belt

@drsbaitso @alice @eurekasven7 I saw this pattern release literally this week so I guess belt pouches are back? 😉

Cloaks. Mostly just to make it socially acceptable to wear a blanket out in public.

@draNgNon
I was too poor to afford a leather jacket, so I had this pair of oversized shorts that I would sew patches on to. I loved those shorts and I think my wife threw them away when I got rid of my Mohawk for good. -

@dan that was my experience in Mensa. Lots of capes.
