Hi, the Mastodons. I don't know how this works yet or how active I'll be here, but I thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm a UK-based female AuDHD adult, choosing to remain mostly anonymous. I'm really just curious about how the Fediverse works - I can be ambivalent about social media but I thought this sounded refreshing in contrast to the big, powerful platforms which feel scarier to me by the minute. I've also been getting to grips with Linux recently, and am thinking about other ways within my limited means and courage to try to be involved with more of the small things that are about moving away from exploitation and towards caring for each other.

@MelodicDinosaur do you know about hashtags around here? The algo is chronological so tags are very helpful. Such as #actuallyAutistic or #AuDHD . There are a bunch of great weird ones too, #lichensubscribe (for lichen pics), #asstodon (donkey pics), #caturday (which today is). Check out @FediTips if ever you feel lost (:

My unasked-for advice - if you find that you've followed someone who floods your timeline you don't have to unfollow or mute them - you can also just turn their boosts off (if that's the problem) or if it's more a verbal diarrhoea thing put them in a list of their own.
Have fun. And stay away from the lichen freaks.

@MelodicDinosaur Welcome to the Fediverse. Mastodon might be just the place for you. Take the time to search for and follow users and hashtags that you're interested in as it works best once you've curated your feed. Also don't be afraid to boost things as this also helps with engagement.
From my experience so far, Mastodon is a pretty inclusive place with regards to neurodiversity and nerdy stuff like Linux etc. That could also just be my personal experience based on who I follow, but I'm sure you'll find some engaging topics.
You basically get what you give so don't hold back. 😉

There are a lot of people that don't know any more about this place than you do who are still good people and would like to talk to you. I hope you'll forgive my asking such a purrsonal question - you're a very handsome cat, but are you a familiar or representative of the wizard or are you the wizard himself?
I'd rather not have to choose a tribe but it'd better not be sourdough because I tried one once and forgot about it and then it just got smelly and I threw it away so I'm afraid the little yeasts that live in the air will gang up on me if I ever try it again.
As for lichen vs. cats, I'll have to think carefully about this. I do like my new lichen friends but I don't want to end up embroiled in gang warfare. I'll have to seek specialist advice.

I am an older autistic gentleman who is getting sick and tired of being older. But I don't bite. There are some instances which are only for autistics, such as the one I'm on, autistics.life. also depending on how accepting of different kinds of people you are, there are lots of good people on beige.party.

Raises the question. Is there any good way to use AI? Is there a way to invert it and turn it on itself, to use AI to destroy AI, to sabotage any ill it is designed to inflict, to undo or replace its propaganda effect, to use it to release the Epstein files?

@dalias @fesshole that's a myopic way to look at it. Most likely the employer doesn't care enough about you to want to deskill you by exposing you to "cognitoharazds". They're following hype and/or they're misguided. I'd be tempted to say they don't even have a strategy around the use of llms, but that's just speculation. So you're not really sabotaging the company by burning tokens. What you're doing is moral posturing that makes you feel better about yourself because you're the main character in your story and you're sticking it to the man. But that's a pointless exercise that only ends up sabotaging the cause you're supposedly fighting for (capitalism, llm hype, late stage capitalism death cult). By silently complying, and using the tokens you're just bolstering their policy.

@weizenspreu @alexmu @fesshole A casual remark about why a story is likely fake does not call for a detailed explanation of intricacies, especially when this kind of software is dropping logs both intentionally and unintentionally all over the place and there is absolutely significant risk of getting caught.
