First time leaving my house in days (because non-stop rain) for a work thing in The Hague. Lekker cycle through the rain to the station, pants are soaked, trains are cancelled once again, detour in a different train that's a full on sauna packed like sardines with my fellow peasants.

I'm not even joking when I say that I'm willing to extend €2000 at minimum for anyone who can get me a visa sponsored job in Australia, or a half-decent paying job in southern Europe, or a remote job anywhere.
Again I LOVE my job here, and I'm so good at it, but I can't with this country 🥲

@Gina Would a job do that's 100% remote? Or do you prefer at least a partial on-site experience? In my company I try to employ people independent from their place of living.

@Gina We are located in Nothern Germany near #Eckernförde, so weather-wise not an improvement compared to #TheHague. But dependent on or place of living hiring for 100% remote is possible, too. Feel free to send a CV or similar.

@Gina Complaining about the weather? Are you English? Interestingly, the Netherlands (or is it just Amsterdam?) is always shown as a car-free bike-driven transport paradise we should aspire to over this side of the Channel, but never when its pouring down...

Seriously though, it wasn't until reading Object Oriented Software Construction by Bertrand Meyer that I became comfortable with exceptions. This the book that introduces the Eiffel language and Design by Contract (DbC). It's a great book - clear and insightful, engaging and readable for a textbook - very highly recommended.
Meyer's position was that you clearly define the scope of responsibility of a routine as well as its requirements and expectations. Exceptions are for exceptional conditions _only_ - issues where the routine's contract with its caller is broken. DbC makes you think more clearly and intentionally when you create a routine; part of that is clearly documenting which exceptions a routine can throw. One of my biggest complaints about OO systems is that there's no way to get a complete list of exceptions that could be emitted from a function call so you can effectively handle them; I'm not sure that's even possible. Either way it makes the code difficult to reason about. Not that status codes are any better in practice - the tradeoff seems to be between clear implementation code and routines with clearly documented behavior.
