I could almost swear I'd read a story like that, but I can't remember any of the details.
Alfred Bester wrote a great story in the '50s or '60s about a man and woman in New York City who repeatedly get connected via wrong number phone calls. They finally decide to meet up, and each think the other has stood them up, until they compare their experience and discover they are living in very different NYCs.
