So, I wanted to verify something about how Bluesky handles adult content. So as seemed reasonable for doing a test, I logged in my test account. I immediately found my test account was banned from seeing nudity.
On investigation, I found my test account is permanently flagged as *mandatorily* region-locked for: Brazil; Russia; Turkey; India; and Germany. I cannot turn the moderation for any of those five countries off. Not even using Blacksky, not even with a self-hosted PDS.
What in the fuck?

@mcc This makes zero sense but is yet another reason for me to distrust Blusky.
I want to decide by myself by what things I feel offended, thank you very much.

@mcc Brazilian here. Let me see if I understood: you are not from any of these countries, but are now only allowed to post from them?

@lffontenelle No, the idea is… in addition to the basic moderation, bluesky has additional moderation layers that enforce speech laws in particular countries. If they detect you're in one of those countries, they enable the additional moderation layers, and the posts that are illegal in those countries get hidden. Each additional moderation service on the list restricts which posts I can read more.
For some reason, bluesky is detecting this account as "in" every country on earth simultaneously.
