Duckduckgo has a survey for pro/anti-AI and I cackled so hard at the (current) results
-
@brhfl @vaporeon_ @lexfeathers they should let you vote on that question too, to tell them you're also not curious
@nash @brhfl @lexfeathers I already know what an "AI" internet looks like, we're in it right now, all the web sites keep pushing "AI" that wasn't asked for

@lexfeathers
Hace unos días Discord hizo algo similar. Al poco tiempo la encuesta desapareció misteriosamente. -
LOL. This was me voting.
@funnymonkey "A man scrolling through no banners" is confusing to read.
I think it should say something more like "An animated gif of a man holding and intentionally throwing to the ground signs that read 'no'."
If anyone else has better ideas feel free to share them, because that's the best I've got.

@IntrepidVector @lexfeathers I see... Not really a choice if you clear cookies regularly and it defaults to it turned on and not to it turned off... I avoid it by going to https://lite.duckduckgo.com, the version without JavaScripts and without LLMs, but it doesn't have picture search, so for picture search I instead have to remember to type in https://noai.duckduckgo.com, which is somewhat annoying...
@vaporeon_ @IntrepidVector @lexfeathers
EDIT: Someone beat me to it, rip
If you’re not aware, you can add a custom search engine to your browser without too much trouble! Just go to search settings and it’s typically near the bottom iirc. I added NoAI DDG to my browser that way for those exact reasons lol

@lexfeathers
Every company is putting AI everywhere they can.
Meanwhile 96% of people: -
I don't think it's that simple.
AI for cancer research?
Absolutely. I'm on board.
AI in a search engine provided 'free' by a corporation that exploits its users?
Nope.
It's only complex if you make it complex. DDG isn't asking in generalities. If you go up to a fast food restaurant and they say "want ketchup?" They aren't surveying you on whether you accept or refuse ketchup as a general moral stance. They want to know if they should be adding ketchup to your order.
-
@Wintergr33n @lexfeathers I think we're both talking about regulating AI, albeit in different ways. I want it regulated like chemical or biological weapons, with severe penalties for using it in any way, shape, or form.

@river @IntrepidVector Different question, but do you also happen to know how I could put back the search engine selection at the bottom of the URL/search bar? Before I switched to Librewolf, the Firefox 128 ESR had that (it had first the URL suggestions from your browsing history, and below that the option to search with different search engines), and the Librewolf that's based on the latest Firefox only has a drop-down menu that's a lot less intuitive to keyboard-navigate to... (Need to Shift+Tab to it and then press the down arrow before the menu appears, as opposed to just pressing the down arrow a few times...)
This is what stopping me from using a custom search engine right now, the fact that it's difficult to select a search engine for a search at all

@lexfeathers @req and if you want to get further away from AI nonsense like the stuff Mozilla is pushing in Firefox, it's pretty friction-free to move to Waterfox.
-
@lexfeathers "We don't all feel the same about AI"
Kinda... kinda looks like we do?
Seems to be going in that direction......😆

@notthatdelta @lexfeathers 5% is low enough we could go door to door handing out dunce caps

@depereo @lexfeathers @req yep it's exactly the same without the AI.

@lexfeathers I love your music, I've been working on a piano cover of succession.
It's funny I happened to open mastodon at your first post. -
@notthatdelta @lexfeathers some amount of selection bias can be assumed, but still, heck
@dan @notthatdelta @lexfeathers there are probably simply more people on the NoAI side who know how to work around the multiple vote protection.
