We're not currently doing anything around spam because it's not really a specification issue. There has been a few projects in this space, but when I've tested them they've left a lot to be desired. I can't remember specific names off top of head now though because it's been at least 6 months since I did that reaearch

@gabboman @admin @Eeveecraft @jb I'm suspicious of them, but considering that I'm effectively connect via cell phone, I have my doubts that even if VPNs are real, they're going to do much for me

the software has that as a safety measure on open instances because i dont want my software to be used for harrasment.
also reminder, VPNs are security snakeoil.

@gabboman @admin @Eeveecraft @jb Thanks for chipping in, I figured it was instance specific, so I wasn't going to try to speak for y'all. Me personally, I don't use a VPN though I should, but I'm not sure what good it would do as I'm on Verizon 5G

sorry its an anti gore and anti dox measure.
I got people join with vpn and start posting gore or dox info of other people.
Not anymore since we do the vpn checks.
Its for the safety of everyone.

We only block registration from VPNs because of safety purposes (we have seen so many times that spambots and stuff wants to get in with a VPN), but if you use a VPN after registration (e.g. for posting or viewing posts), it is fine
