The Southerners' argument for slavery was that they couldn't maintain their economy without slave labor. They thought the UK and maybe France would support them (though slavery was banned there) because those countries needed the cotton that the South exported. One prominent Southerner popularized the slogan "Cotton is King."

@kenobit Dicevano così anche i tardo hippies che tutt'ora vivono negli ecovillaggi senza elettricità, eppure eccoci qua, a scriverci su un social sovversivo. Gli ho sempre odiati quelli, perché nella confusione e opacità creata dalle aziende private a loro vantaggio, non riuscivano a comprendere i lati positivi dello strumento e indipendenti dal loro utilizzo capitalistico.
Non vorrei che facessimo la fine di quelle persone.
