hi fedi! does anyone happen to know how to acquire a nice witch hat?
(i.e. people who sell them, would be willing to make them, or maybe even just instructions I can follow myself)
I desperately need a witch hat to complete my character, especially given the upcoming talks I'll be giving '
by "nice" I mean something that I could wear daily, something that brings joy, something that's well made, looks nice up close, and will last forever. (I can find a lot of bad hats, but what's the point...)
reposts are appreciated, mrrrow,,,
@wffl Have you looked on Etsy?

@wffl These are the general materialsâŠ(explanations in alt text)
@wffl A form I cut out of cardboard to measure my head. As you can see my original cutout (the disk in the center) was a bit small, the resulting hole is slightly bigger and not a perfect oval!
I would try this on your head repeatedly and make adjustments, it should be somewhat snug, as you can always trim a little bit off đ©·
Use it like a stencil on your brim fabric (I cut my brim out first and then tried to center the stencil onto the âcircleâ I cut out. -

This was the easiest way to make the âpointâ . I measured the hole in the crown to be sure I had enough fabric for the base of the âconeâ , I then made a general guess as to how long I wanted the âconeâ laid my fabric on my iron-on batting, (on a corner đ) took a string with a pencil and marked a curve. (Ironing the fabric also makes this step easier ). Then you just cut and sew the two straight sides together! -

I did cut extra fabric to go over the edge of the brim and glued it there. I think if I sewed it down with one small (as in straight probably a long stitch so it wouldnât be too obvious) and then sewed the point on then the underside fabric.

@wffl because when you cut the hole for your head on the brim (donât cut it as an oval just make cuts like a pie, itâll give you something more to hold onto) you now have to fit the point into this hole, remember this is fabric just laid and glued on the brim form, thereâs already a hole of that brim form.
If I were to do it again, Iâd sew the point on first then sew the underside fabric (I basically did it all at once đč) This is another reason why itâs a bit sloppy on the stitching đč -

Itâs a piece of the same wire wedged into a âloose stitchâ that extends into the brim and up into the point

@wffl having a small ribbon to âmaskâ any silly stitch work is always a good idea đč especially if itâs your first time making a hat đč

There must be something magic about a hat made entirely out of dried cucumber, but maybe that's more druid than witch

@wffl If you don't get any better option, I've got this one : https://www.leonardo-carbone.com/witch-hat-agata-black
It doesn't really match your requirements, it's not a really high quality piece of clothing, but it's quite nice and comfortable (to begin with, it's actually made of wool) and, I think, a good value for price.
(The clothes from this site in general are rather cheaply made, I still occasionally shop on it because they're good enough for LARP and sometimes they do sales with really huge discounts. I recommend the hat because it is really a cut above the other stuff I bought from them.)
