  • So here is thought experiment.
    cdunnpasadena@sfba.socialundefined cdunnpasadena@sfba.social

So here is thought experiment. Design an “Orbital data center” satellite. Solve all of the problems- solar power, heat rejection, telecom to the customers, radiation design life, launch, end of life disposal, maneuvering and attitude control.
Now take that satellite and stick it in the Mojave dessert. Maybe you need more solar power due to atmospheric attenuation and longer “eclipses” (night), and you need protection from the elements, but otherwise everything I listed above can be eliminated or greatly simplified. And, if it breaks or you have made a design error, you can fix it.
Why would you ever launch one of these?

@oblomov @mycotropic @sundogplanets this is clearly just advertising BS. In addition to being a generally bad idea, 500-1000 km is well into the Van Allen belts, so the radiation makes this even more stupid

@danwentzel Cali joined the WHO “Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network ,” which isn’t exactly the same as joining WHO, but it’s a start
