So here is thought experiment. Design an “Orbital data center” satellite. Solve all of the problems- solar power, heat rejection, telecom to the customers, radiation design life, launch, end of life disposal, maneuvering and attitude control.
Now take that satellite and stick it in the Mojave dessert. Maybe you need more solar power due to atmospheric attenuation and longer “eclipses” (night), and you need protection from the elements, but otherwise everything I listed above can be eliminated or greatly simplified. And, if it breaks or you have made a design error, you can fix it.
Why would you ever launch one of these? -

Bombe plananti (glide bombs) sull'Ucraina
La Russia ha aumentato la produzione di Su-34 per lanciarle.
Military Watch Magazine, noto per analisi pro-russe, riprende video del Ministero della Difesa russo del gennaio 2026 che mostrano Su-34 in azione contro presunti raggruppamenti ucraini.
Non emergono verifiche indipendenti immediate, ma ucraini hanno da tempo lamentato l'impatto delle bomba plananti (es. New York Times nel 2024).
